The Jewish Feminist Circle has become my cherished safe space on campus, allowing me to explore my religious, spiritual, and cultural connections to my Jewish identity in an inclusive environment. This vibrant community provides a platform to meet college students looking for community and spiritual engagement.
Hillel has provided me with various opportunities to meet new people from other grades and make some of my best friends. My best friend at UMich was someone I met on the last day of the Hillel Orientation Retreat who I happened to sit next to at lunch.
At first, I didn’t know what to expect when going to events at Hillel, but when I got there, everyone was so friendly and outgoing it gave me that sense of community that I love.
As a regular attendee at Hillel events during my time at Michigan I made life-long friends that I am still in touch with today. I also accumulated stories ("I was the first projectionist of the Hill Street Cinema") that I get to tell my kids.
My wife and I met at Michigan Hillel. I was running a student group and as a freshman she signed up. She didn't realize what she was really signing up for (or maybe I didn't realize)!
UM Hillel has provided my daughter the ability to participate in activities with other Jewish students and continue a sense of belonging and community during her college years. Shabbat services and dinner have helped solidify her Jewish identity.
Having two children at Michigan, Hillel has made it feel like I have a surrogate there when needed. The chicken soup delivery was the first time that I used Hillel as a parent and I love the fact that my son got some TLC from a Jewish organization.
My daughter got sick the first semester of school. I called Hillel and they delivered chicken soup to her door. Hillel is like a Jewish mother, they're there to watch over you.
Hillel is a home for my son to go on Friday nights while away from home. He went to dinner at Hillel his very first Friday on campus, which was surprising enough, but when he kept going back with his friends, I was stunned.
Hillel was an integral part of my experience at Michigan. It provided a warm and friendly place to catch a delicious bite to eat, to attend thought provoking classes and discussions, to study in a quiet and spacious environment, or just chill out.
I learned to look for people with vision and ideas, to work to provide resources to students and colleagues with strong visions, and to examine and follow my passions. Seeing how Michael Brooks did that at Hillel has influenced my work and career.
I met my future wife while in route to Friday night services at Hillel. She and I also met Hillel executive director Michael Brooks through our involvement with Hillel. Michael became a valued friend and later officiated our wedding.
Hillel gave me a place to call home and a place to feel comfortable and a place to spread my wings. Hillel changed the way that I think about jewish campus life. Hillel really shaped my entire college experience.
My son goes to Hillel on Friday nights for dinner. I am happy that he not only went the first Friday night but continues to go each week. He enjoys going and feels comfortable there. He goes because he wants to, not because his parents want him to.
Hillel gave me the opportunity to assume a variety of leadership roles, and to be mentored in those roles by upper classmen as well as Hillel's talented professional staff. I grew spiritually, intellectually and organizationally.
Hillel is an environment that is always welcoming, whether you're interested in some of the formal opportunities offered or whether you are hoping for an opportunity to casually interact with other students that share your faith.
Michigan Hillel provided invaluable connections to Jewish life while I was on campus and created a strong network of Jewish UM alumni all over the country.
Hillel provided a warm, stable atmosphere to slow down and relax with friends, during a time when everything seemed to be moving so fast. It was a place that provided me a warm meal, and a great study area.
When I was in school, Hillel helped me feel at home for the Jewish holidays. I also participated in a Hillel fundraiser making phone calls. It helped bridge my Jewish identity from living at home to starting my own independent life.
Having Hillel on campus has enabled me to practice my religion on campus and experience my Jewish culture. The staff and rabbis at Hillel encouraged me to develop programs for the School of Public Health. Hillel has allowed me to stay connected.
It taught me leadership skills, gave me a sense of community amongst my peers, and helped me feel supported throughout my college career. The staff always pushed me to be the best student leader possible.
Michigan Hillel gives alumni another way to reconnect and network via the block seating at home games. My son and I really appreciated the opportunity to come back to campus together. Toda raba!!
