Cultivate Your Inner Mensch

Wednesdays beginning Oct. 17th

A six-part spiritual bootcamp, with Jewish texts, partner check-ins, and daily exercises for your soul to bring your best self into the world. Join our Hillel group or find a group of friends to run the course in your own home (I’ll bring the bagels). 7:00-9:00pm Dinner Included.

Ethical discussions: Sex and Power in Judaism

Thursday evenings at 5:45 PM, Oct 11th, 18th, & 25th. 

Join Rav Lisa for a 3-part discussion of Jewish values related to the ethics of sex and power. This intersection has been in the news recently, but discussions of power, authority, sexuality, intimacy, and their place in the public sphere are as old as Judaism. This course will include conversation and Jewish text over substantial snacks. All backgrounds welcome, diverse views recommended, open minds required.

Topics in Jewish Law, Thought, and History

Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm.

Using the weekly page of Talmud as a springboard, this class will discuss different topics in Jewish law, thought, and history. Each class is a self-contained unit, so attendance in earlier classes is not necessary.

Women’s Talmud Shuir

Fridays at 12:00 PM, beginning Oct. 12th

This class will delve into some of the legal and philosophical conversations found in the Talmud. It is text-based and is intended for individuals with prior background in studying Jewish texts. For women who want to sharpen their Talmud learning skills and explore stimulating Talmudic topics, this is the class for you!

So Just, So Jewish

Thursdays at 6:30 PM, beginning Oct 25th. With Dinner! 

Join this 4 part learning series and connect with others as you explore your Judaism through a social justice lens! Have meaningful conversations and learn a little bit more about how to make this world a better place. Dinner will be served

Knead To Know

Beginning in October, leading up to ShabUM on Nov. 16th

Want to learn how to cook Shabbat dinner for your friends on with little budget/time/space? Sharing meals around your table is a meaningful tradition you can start at Michigan, and take with you always! Savor new cooking skills and digest info on that powerful connection between Judaism and food, all while satisfying your appetite!

Daf Hashavuah

Monday evenings at 8:30pm

Join Jews around the world as we study one page of Talmud a week. This class focuses on understanding the basic text of the Talmud, without significant discussion of practical application or deep analysis. We will be studying Tractate Megillah, which focuses on the holiday of Purim. Attendance at the previous week’s class is not required to understand the following week.

Figuring It Out:

A Seminar for Freshmen About Jewish Life in College

Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM, Starting October 30th.
Join your fellow first year students to explore important issues of college life from a Jewish lens. This seminar will include Jewish texts, conversation, and reflection time, as we look ahead at the next few years together, all over dinner!
