Governing Board

  • Kendall Coden

    Chair [email protected]

Hi! My name is Kendall and I am ecstatic to be serving as the 2018 chair of Hillel. I am a Junior in LSA studying BCN. During the few hours I am not at Hillel, I can be found in one of the various coffee shops around Ann Arbor, in the library, or in the Psych lab I am a part of. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with our fantastic Governing Board to make Hillel the very best it can be! I also love going on coffee dates to learn about as many individuals as I can (It doesn’t just have to be coffee… Amer’s has some amazing Grilled Cheese) and to know what you want from Hillel. If you have any ideas for Hillel, want to share any fun facts (I’ll go first- I taught Jim Harbaugh how to sail a boat this summer), or just want some free coffee, please hit me up!

Hi! My name is Dalia, and I am so excited to serve as Internal Relations Officer of Governing Board 2018! I am currently a Junior in LSA studying BCN (Biopsychology, Cognition & Neuroscience and I hail from NYC. If you’re looking for me there is a good chance I am at Hillel either eating or working on something for one of the Hillel organizations I am apart of. Hillel is really important to me because it has helped me find my Jewish community at Michigan! Aside from Hillel I love volunteering with small children, exploring Ann Arbor, and eating chocolate. Feel free to introduce yourself to me if you have any ideas for Hillel or in general, or even if you don’t — I love going on coffee dates (and will do ice cream dates too)!

  • Sharon Lang

    Communications Officer [email protected]

Hi! My name is Sharon, and I’m super excited to be the 2018 Governing Board’s Communications Chair! I am currently a Sophomore studying Psychology in LSA, and up until I moved to Ann Arbor for college, I lived in Costa Rica my entire life. I can usually be found asleep in my bed, working at my research lab, or at Hillel for one of my hundreds of meetings or to study. I am particularly excited to be serving as part of this year’s GB and getting a chance to give back to a community that allowed me to have a pretty easy transition into college as an International student. I am really into artsy things (check out the Hillel Art Club- HART!), love reading whenever I am not swamped with homework, and eat an absurd amount of chocolate daily. Please don’t be scared to reach out if you have any questions or if you want to grab some (free) coffee or snack! My email is [email protected]

    Graduate Student Member [email protected]

Hey! I’m a Robotics PhD Student and National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate Fellow with research interests in human-robot interaction, human factors, and cognitive ergonomics. Beyond serving on Michigan Hillel’s governing board, I strive for Jewish graduate students from all 19 schools and colleges to feel that they belong in our community, as well as help undergrads have a smooth transition to post-college life. I was formerly the President of the Duke University Jewish Student Union and returned home to the Washington, DC area after college to work for an air traffic control engineering and research company. I founded the Jewish young adult community’s DC Design Workshop and was elected DC’s Jewish Guy of the Year by Gather the Jews. Currently, I am a Moishe House Without Walls Host and a member of the ROI Community. If you’re a current or prospective graduate student, send me an e-mail! I’d love to get to know you and welcome you to our community.

    Graduate Student Member [email protected]

Hi!  I’m Rachel Wall, and I’m pursuing a Mater’s of Social Work at UM, with a certificate in Jewish Communal Leadership.  (Ask me about this amazing program!)  I graduated from Northwestern University in 2011, where I was part of multiple Hillel student groups.  In addition to my current Hillel and Jewish Communal Leadership certificate work, I am a member of the Ann Arbor Orthodox Minyan (AAOM).  I live in Ann Arbor with my husband Logan, a PhD candidate in English and Judaic Studies.  I want to show grad students who may be a few years out of college that Hillel has a place for them, and to help all members of the community feel ownership over their Jewish experience at Michigan.  I’d love to get to know you and build that experience together.

Hi! My name is Shana Frankel, and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Social Work here at the University of Michigan. I’m a Georgia native who graduated from the University of Maryland in 2016 with a Bachelor’s in Social Work. Along with my involvement in Hillel, I work at the Jewish Community Center of Ann Arbor and am doing my social work internship at Groundcover News, the local street newspaper of Ann Arbor! While I miss living in Washington, D.C., where I moved here from, I am so happy to be here, experiencing all that the Midwest has to offer. I am so grateful to have the experience to be serving on the governing board, and to continue my involvement with Hillel on a new campus! If you’re a current or prospective graduate student, send me an e-mail! I’d love to get to know you and welcome you to our community.

I’m a want-to-be UM student but really just a member of the community! I’ve worked for Jewish foundations and nonprofits for almost twenty years and am currently Executive Director of the Mandell and Madeleine Berman Foundation and also Director of Philanthropic Advising at Rosov Consulting. My two sons, Eli and Caleb, ages 14 and 11, are rabid Michigan fans, along with my husband David, a social worker and lawyer. Attending the Governing Board meetings makes my day — truly — and I never cease to be impressed by the Michigan Hillel student leaders and staff.
