Alternative Spring Breaks 2017: Brooklyn and Poland

Michigan Hillel is excited to offer two Alternative Spring Break options this year: a social justice and service learning trip to Brooklyn, and a Jewish heritage trip to Poland. Both trips are highly subsidized, but have costs associated with them. Deadline to apply: January 5th. See more details below.

ASB Brooklyn
Are you interested in social justice work? Want to do something meaningful with your Spring Break? Join Hillel for a unique and transformative experience in Brooklyn, NY this Spring Break, in Partnership with Repair the World.

This trip will use a Racial Justice framework to explore social change in the food and education systems. The week will include the racial justice seminar, as well as volunteer service activities, expert guest speakers, adventures in the City, and learning through a Jewish lens.

No previous experience in community service or social justice work is required. There will be 2 required orientations before the trip, as well as a follow up meeting.

Contact Annie Rashes for more information: [email protected]

Deadline to apply: Thursday, January 5th, 2017

Costs will be $400, plus travel to New York. The group will work on fundraising for the trip together.

Deposit: $200 will be due by Jan 16th

ASB Poland
Spring Break in Poland with our partner organization in Poland, Taube Jewish Heritage Tours.
The trip will include:
– Expert tour guides and guest speakers
– Visiting historical sites of Polish Jewish history, and bearing witness to the Holocaust.
– An authentic look into contemporary Polish and Polish-Jewish life in two different cities.
– An opportunity to process and reflect on the responsibility and legacy of the Holocaust in Jewish memory.

The cost of the cost of the trip on the ground will be fully covered, so that each participant only need to pay for (or personally fundraise for) their flight, which will be between $900-$1200. We know this is even a financial strain for some, so we are committed to helping students with personal fundraising, and working to be able to offer travel subsidies as well.

To prepare for and debrief the experience, we will have 3 required orientation sessions before the trip, and 2 after.
