Michigan Hillel is excited to offer multiple opportunities this year.
Fall Break, October 13-16
Join Hillel as we work in Detroit with Repair the World: Detroit. Repair the World is a social justice Jewish organization with many locations around the country. This trip has costs associated with it, however we will work to lower the cost through grants and scholarships.
Specifically in Detroit, we will be working with a few different local food banks, such as the Mercado, Keep Growing Detroit, and Project Healthy Community. Another aspect of our trip will focus on the youth in Detroit. We will be working with Brilliant Detroit, a family-centered, neighborhood-based organization dedicated to children’s success. We will also have the really unique opportunity to volunteer in an elementary school with a third grade class! A lot of counties require background checks to work in a school, so this is a great chance to do something different. Outside of volunteering, we are going to a few different museums, including the Motown Museum and the Detroit Historical Museum. We will celebrate Shabbat with the local Jewish community, including a free Friday night dinner and a trip to the Eastern Market on Saturday! There will also be down time for you to explore on your own or catch up on some sleep.
Winter Break, December 21 – January 8
The trip dates are to be determined. The above dates are for all of Winter Break and are to be used as a reference for this trip.
