Welcome to Host At Home
Our Host at Home program empowers students to host their own Shabbat or holiday experience for themselves and their peers. Hillel is here to support all of your hosting needs, whether you are a first-time host or an experienced host. Before your first experience hosting through our program, all hosts must have an initial conversation with Rav Lisa.
All of your Host at Homes needs will be managed through Hillel’s online events Platform, with support from staff.
Here’s How It Works
- Submit your Host at Home event on the Platform (by Wednesday at 5PM)
- Make sure you have an account!
- Click on “Create an Experience”
- Fill in the details about your event – including your menu, questions for guests, etc!
- Once Hillel approves your event, start inviting your guests.
- Review and approve your RSVPs through your Platform account
- Hosts can get ritual items like candles, blessing cards, and challah covers from Hillel – free of charge!
- First-time hosts must have a conversation with Rav Lisa prior to hosting their first event to be eligible for reimbursement
- Hillel will reimburse hosts $10 per person up to $100 (we do not reimburse for alcohol)
- You will receive a form (this one for Grad Students) to submit itemized receipts and an excel attendance sheet, which are required to get reimbursed.
- We do not want extra costs of hosting to prevent you from participating in Host at Home. Please reach out to Hillel in advance of your meal for pre-approval for additional funds if needed.
- For the High Holidays: Hosts can get reimbursed for one Rosh Hashanah meal and either pre-fast or break fast during Yom Kippur, not both.
